Background
Engineer, scientist, researcher, consultant and blogger currently working on a four year doctorate in renewable energy. I have a keen interest in sustainability and am experienced in working with both industry and academia on some of the most challenging issues in the energy field. I have a strong grasp of wider energy and sustainability issues, renewable resource variability, analysis and strategy development. I also have a broad interest in informing policy and sustainable development.
Interests
I’m a keen photographer and writer, and I love travelling, seeing new cultures and meeting new people. I regularly play competitive team sports including football and American football, whom I represented at a university varsity level.
My research
I am a research engineer completing an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) with global energy giant AES and the TSBE, a £6m EPSRC funded centre at Reading University. The EngD is a unique qualification that brings together the academic rigour of a PhD, the further learning of a masters and the experience of working in industry, in order to solve a real, pressing and relevant research problems.
My research interests lie in the area of energy and wider sustainability issues, with a focus particularly on the energy modelling and the challenges of integrating high levels of renewables on existing fossil fuel based electricity markets. This is work both into understanding the nature of renewable resources themselves, but also particularly on the impacts on conventional fossil fuel generation, which will remain an important part of the energy mix for the foreseeable future. You can find out more about my research by checking out my research poster, my publications or visiting the TSBE centre website.
